Americans Happy about Healthcare

healthcare govAmericans satisfaction with the federal government’s work in healthcare is up. Forty-three percent say they’re satisfied, up 14 percentage points from 2013, according to a Gallup poll. And the increases cross party lines, with Democrats, Republicans and Independents all reporting an increase in satisfaction on the issue of the government and healthcare.

Despite what many considered a botched rollout of the ACA’s website, healthcare.gov, as well as much criticism of the program itself, the percentage of Americans enrolling in the government’s healthcare program and other insurance programs have exceeded predictions. Likely as a result of Obamacare, the uninsured rate in the U.S. is now the lowest Gallup has tracked since 2008. There have also been modest increases in Americans’ views of the Affordable Care Act.

The Gallup survey asked Americans about whether they were satisfied with 20 areas of government performance. The three that came out on top were mail delivery (90% satisfaction!), national parks and open space, and responding to natural disasters. Healthcare was in the middle. At the bottom were immigration policy, the nation’s finances, and poverty (16% satisfaction).
