Defending the Public Good

Public Good We recently learned about the Institute for Local Self Reliance’s project The Public Good. With the tagline “defending the public good,” this arm of ILSR is putting out terrific content about the ongoing national debate over public versus private. Some of their recent articles discuss topics such as the long-term impacts of airline de-regulation, whether Microsoft’s influence on public schools has been a good one, and whether cities can effectively tackle inequality on their own. The Public Good is a welcome addition to the national dialogue. Their recent analysis about Microsoft’s influence on the Race to the Top had this to say:

“And now, just as public school systems have widely adopted the Microsoft model in order to win the Race to the Top, it turns out that Microsoft now realizes that its model has led that once highly competitive company in a Race to the Bottom.”
