Child Well-being

Defending the Role of Government in Child Well-being

As Americans, we eagerly support and cherish our own children. However, progress on improving conditions for all our nation’s children has stalled in many arenas.

Children’s advocates know what needs to be done. The science and the policy knowledge have advanced.

But, public will and action lag behind.

To build support for public programs that serve children and families, we must:

Focus on interdependence by paying attention to whom we include in our circle of concern and our definition of “we”.

Actively and assertively defend the role of government in supporting our children, giving examples of how public programs work with parents to create healthy families and children.

Refocus budget debates on how improving the lives of children is vital to our future as a nation.
