Oregon Voters Invest in Nature

Making the Case_It's Our NatureIn May, voters in and around Portland, OR approved a five-year local-option levy to help maintain natural areas and regional parks. Voters supported this levy because they recognized the shared public value of outdoor recreation, wildlife habitat and water quality. Metro, the regional government for the Portland metropolitan area, focused on these shared public values in its video, “It’s Our Nature” (the name alone echoed a local understanding of how everyone benefits from investment in natural areas and parklands) and on its website where they explained the value of public lands.

“Oregonians value these special places, and the fish and wildlife that depend on them.”
