Over the Hill in Oregon: In June Patrick and Anika joined their great colleagues from Neighborhood Partnerships in Oregon for a trip from Portland over the mountains to Central Oregon where they held a full day workshop for an array of non-profit organizations, local advocates and community service providers.
Community Engagement in New Mexico: Public Works has been invited to participate in a Community Engagement Initiative in New Mexico that is being sponsored by the W. K. Kellogg Foundation. On June 11th, Public Works staff joined a group of “early adopters” in Albuquerque for a day long meeting focused on exploring dominant narratives in New Mexico and their implications for public advocacy on behalf of children and families. We’re looking forward to working with the foundation and a stellar group of community leaders and consultants as this initiative moves forward.
In New Jersey, public workers make the case for government in an age of austerity: New Jersey: Public Works staff conducted two workshops at a recent conference for public sector members of the Communication Workers of America. Among others, CWA represents all of the state and local public sector workers in New Jersey. These workers like others around the country are struggling to make the case for the work that they do, for their retirement security and for their right to organize.
